Okay, I'm going to be doing some posts that will be
updates/free writing (in an effort to stir the muse).
I haven’t been writing recently. I've just been lounging
about not doing much of anything. I don't start school until January, so I
think I've let the whole idea of a vacation go to my head. In reality I should
be working twice as hard, because when I go back to school I'll probably have
no time. I'd love to finish a book and short story before then, and I should be
promoting my ass off. I'm going to pay for some promotion soon though. It will
be nice to have someone do the more annoying points of marketing for me.
I've gone back to work on a book called Almost Human. I
stopped because of issues with my previous publisher, but I'm back to it again.
I'm stuck, of course. I swear. I have a magic word count that I'm GARANTEED to
get bogged down at. That word count is 26,000. I've tried to persevere. I'm at
33,342. I need to delete some of those words because they suck. At this point I'm
kind of worried I'll never finish anything ever again. I haven't finished
anything since Strapless, which was released in like August of last year. And
Strapless hardly counts as something I finished. It's a whopping, gargantuan word
count of…1,986. *Cough* See what I mean about not being able to crow about
finishing it. I finished it in an evening. Everyone seems to really enjoy it
though (except the people who are upset that it's so short…which…it's a short
story…the word count is even on the BP website.)
I've been thinking about starting something new but I KNOW
that when I hit 26k I'll just be back in this funky stalled place again. I need
to just keep going. I think. I hope…
I've been reading a LOT. I've been nuts for historical romances
lately. Mostly regency. Mostly Johanna Lindsey. Though right now I'm in the
middle of Highland Scandal by Julia London. I also bought some books by Teresa
Medeiros in this huge Half Price Books in Austin. I also bought two history
books on pirates and one on Vikings, because I don't have any books on Vikings,
and they're never covered in world history classes. At least none that I've
been in.
Publishing News:
The release of The Devil's Trap has been delayed. I do have
the book cover though. When I get my edits I'll tell you.
